On June 17, same-sex couples began receiving marriage licenses from the state of California. Star Trek’s George Takei and his soon-to-be husband Brad Altman were first in a line of hundreds. Also receiving their marriage license were Lambda Legal Senior Counsel Jennifer C. Pizer and her partner Doreena Wong.

Unfortunately, November's election has seen an end to State authorized same-sex marriages, but that does not mean we will stop performing Civil Unions (recognized by the State of CA) or Marriages (tat will be between the parties, but not recognized by the State of CA).

We also prepare reciprocal trusts for each partner so assets will avoid Probate and each has the right to make medical decisions for the other (among other rights).  As state planning attorneys, we can help couples through these trying times and help prepare you for the future....and perform a civil union ceremony or even marry you at the same time.   We're a one-stop wondershop.

THE WEDDING:

The wedding ceremony can be as simple or complex as the parties desire.  We have a conference room with a view of the Pasadena Skyline that we can decorate, or we can arrange to have a banquet hall with catering; the decision is entirely up to the happy couple.  Of course, the cost does increase with the size of the wedding party.  Ours is the actual ceremony for the wedding, but the marriage is not official because of the passage of Proposition 8 on Nov. 4, 2008.

THE TRUST ACCOUNTS:

It would not be fair for me, as an attorney, to not inform all potential couples that the marriage license received in California marriage, even before the passage of Proposition 8, may not be recognized by all individual States and most likely not by the Federal Government for married couple tax benefits...HOWEVER...as trust attorneys we do have a solution to this issue that can be discussed before or after the wedding at the happy couple's convenience.  Basically, each party creates an individual trust that pours over to the other trust.  Each provide durable powers of healthcare to the other (prevents the Terry Schivo problems) and each trust has durable powers of asset management for after acquired property.  Basically, we take care of you from start to middle to end, or up to anywhere in between you feel most comfortable.

==========================================

Our goal is to bring love, peace, joy and happiness to as many people as possible, using the skills and the many licenses we have, we believe the low cost weddings and reduced cost trusts are one way for us to "pay it forward".

We believe anyone two people who are in love, should have the same rights as any heterosexual couple.  After all...

"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all people were created equal, that they were endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights.  Among these are the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Are you someone that is concerned about protecting your family and loved ones?  Do you want to protect your assets from the government if you should pass away?

If you are married, have a life-partner, have children or own a home, then you need to consider providing a FAMILY TRUST to protect your loved ones.
